Tavor X95 Problems - When the Tavor SAR rifle hit the market several years ago, it caused quite a stir. The famous bullpup rifle from Israel was a hit with American shooters, and remains popular in this country.
But the question many IWI US have is "When will we see the X95?" Fortunately, women don't have to wait long before new guns are released.

In this IWI Tavor X95 review, I took the gun to the range to see if it is as fun to shoot as it looks. (Spoiler Alert: It is.)

The Tavor X95 is not your typical pistol, but that much should be obvious at first glance.
Although it is a conventional semi-automatic rifle, it is based on the X95 select fire rifle that entered service with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in 2010. The X95 has proven to be a capable rifle in the service of the IDF which continues to serve. Today.
In 2015, IWI US made the Select-fire X95 pistol available to US law enforcement customers, providing a compact but full-pistol option for SWAT and patrol officers.
It is the compact nature that makes the gun attractive to many people. This shot is short. Carbine length AR-15 has an overall length (OAL) of approximately 32″ with a broken stock. With a 16.5-inch barrel, the overall length of the X95 is a hair over 26 inches. If you want to lose 6″ from the OAL of your gun for extra mobility, the X95 may fit the list.

Forgoing the time and cost investment by private citizens while receiving federal approval for a short-barreled rifle (SBR), the choice of a 10.5″ barrel on the AR-15 greatly reduced muzzle velocity while significantly increasing muzzle blast. When shooting indoors such as during a hostage rescue or home invasion defense, the additional burst of gunfire from an SBR is similar to a flashbang jamming device.
With the X95, women benefit from a full-length barrel, but with the OAL the same as the SBR.
For a modern 5.56 NATO rifle, the X95 faces the top of the range, weighing in at 7.8 pounds. Fortunately, the gun does not feel very heavy.
I believe that light sensitivity is a way to stabilize a gun. Instead of having the weight of the gun in front of the grip, the X95's balance point seems to be behind the grip and directly on my hand. As anyone who has opened the lid on a can of peanut butter can tell you, muscles are tighter closer to the body than spread out. Although the gun is heavy, the balance makes the gun comfortable to hold for a long time.
General Opinions On The Tavor?
Unlike the standard AR-15 design that most of us are familiar with, the X95 uses a remote gas piston system. The piston system tends to add weight to the overall design, and I guess that's why the X95 is about 8 pounds.
The use of a piston system gives the real benefits of cleaner running, and more reliability. Long-range rifles have been used for decades in firearms such as the M1 Garand and AK-47 and have proven to be effective in combat.
The stock is made of a high-strength polymer that feels solid in my hand. There are several mounts on both sides of the gun that accept push button, slide and quick detach swivels. IWI US includes two swivels with a gun so you can take an existing sling and run with the X95.
The top of the gun has a one-piece Picatinny rail for adding optics. The built-in containers fold down into the rails keeping them out of the way unless needed. At the back there is a small hole, while at the front there is a tritium beam used in all lighting conditions.

3 The connection panel on the front panel is removable to reveal the Picatinny accessory line. The cover is well connected together with other leaves with a armrest below the rail. This hand position helps prevent you from moving your support hand too far and in front of the mouth. Sliding panel opens and closes without tools using a twist lock.
I have mixed feelings about the pistol grip assembly. In the standard setting, IWI US uses a handguard instead of a small grid. I like it from the point of view of protecting the hand from the impact of many things. Some things you can get during the stress of fighting.
However, with my shooting finger on the side of the gun frame as it moves, my hand has a strong tendency to slip in the grip. This would move my index finger slightly behind the cylinder, preventing it from moving backwards when I cocked the gun to fire.
IWI US offers a kit that allows you to change out the handguard system for a traditional pistol grip and trigger guard. This is my favorite arrangement, although I don't have the kit on hand to test.

The gun is available in three different versions: 5.56 NATO, 300 BLK and 9mm. IWI US offers a conversion kit that allows you to change calibers.
For this X95 review, I had a 5.56 model with a green OD stock. It takes a standard AR magazine and ships with a 30-round, third-generation Magpul PMAG.
About the same time the X95 arrived at my local gun shop, I received a new Hartman MH1 reflex sight in the mail. MH1 is a red idea by Lt. Col (ret) Mikey Hartman, founder of the Marksmanship and Sharpshooting School of the Israel Defense Forces. Combining the MH1 footage with the IWI shot for this analysis seems like kismetmet.
Hartman sights have many features that attract the attention of many shooters including customizable interface, wide field of view, night vision compatibility, automatic activation when the gun is brought to the shoulder and wireless remote to adjust without removing. Connecting the MH1 to the X95 is dead easy because the monitor has fast settings. The model I tested has a single locking lever, while other models have two additional levers. It attaches easily to the X95, and initially provided a safe for many other guns in my safe.
Want to scratch the surface of my feelings when it comes to the scope of this IWI X95 review. I had the opportunity to do a little bit of the Tavor SAR before and was very impressed with it. To me, the X95 seems to offer many of the same benefits but in an improved design. Boy, was I right.
Recoil is minimal with this gun. The 5.56 NATO round is not a high-powered, hard-kicking bullet, and this is especially evident in the well-balanced Tavor X95. Some piston system guns feel lighter than others, but this one seems to have less recoil than any gas AR. Less nasal congestion.

The built-in lens works well, and with a small rear aperture, it is perfect for sharp and long shots. For close-up work, I found the rear sight to be difficult to use quickly compared to the wide apertures found on most AR rifles. However, this is where the Hartman MH1 vision shines.
Working from the bench, I quickly called Hartman at 25 yards using the graduated target provided to me by sight. A few clicks up and to the left gave me the green box Remington 55 grain FMJ load that I used for most of the testing.
In view there are several brightness settings. In the full Florida sun, I used the dot near the brightest spot and had no trouble getting a good view when putting the gun on target. Throughout the day of shooting, the vision was as I expected without any glitches, fades or other issues.
The visibility will be close to a true 1x magnification optic without the slight magnification sometimes seen with other lenses. The field of view is excellent, as good or better than any red dot I've tried recently. When I stop showering in the afternoon, I leave the sun for a full 30 minutes to burn. When I started shooting again, I didn't see any visual artifacts.
